decorating Melrose Place

3 months after moving we have finally moved on from unpacking to decorating!  This always seems pointless as I know we will just move again before long, but bare walls are depressing.   So here we are!

My snake-headed lamp that I have been carting around since college was a bit of an eye sore in the living room.  It is functional and the colors roughly matched, but I replaced it with a "Tiffany-style" "stained glass" lamp from overstock.com.  I knew it wasn't an original masterpiece of Louis Comfort Tiffany, but I thought it would at least be glass.  Alas, it is stained plastic... I was disappointed, but Justin says it will last through more moves.  Anyhow, it looks fine and maybe one day we can afford a real lamp!

Keeping with the earth tones of the living room I picked up some fabric to make a curtain. It had previously been a blanket thumb-tacked over the door, so I think this looks a little better.  I got a little help from this tutorial.  The only thing I did differently was use real lining fabric instead of a sheet.

Our good friend  Laura sent us this cool canvas featuring 2 of our favorite things.  She has a great eye for design-- check out her blog!

I also just got this poster framed that I picked up when I visited the Sam Adams Brewery with my family.  It was a little expensive since it's an odd size, but I actually found a better deal at our local frame shop on Main Street than current the 60% + 15% off deal at Michael's.   Hooray for supporting local businesses!
