Last weekend I took a trip to Maryland to visit my family for Easter. I hadn't seen my extended family since last Easter! This was a historical event as the traditional egg toss was rained out for the first time ever! The tradition of throwing raw eggs across Granny's front lawn has been in place since before I was born, and inevitably ends in someone with egg on their face. It was a fun trip, and would have been even better if my sister and husband could have joined.

This past weekend my husband and I went to the 113th Submarine birthday ball in Portsmouth, NH. This is one of the smallest sub balls because there are only 3 subs in the shipyard. The theme for this ball was the 50th anniversary of the loss at sea of the USS Thresher. They had just finished an overhaul in Portsmouth and all hands were lost as they sank during sea trials. The story hit close to home for everyone in the room as the three submarine families prepare for sea trials. It was a somber start to the evening, but Admiral Connor urged us to celebrate in honor of the crew lost at sea, and that we did.

And to top off the excitement, our good friend came home this week from a six month deployment in Afghanistan. We said a quick hello at the airport and will be celebrating in the coming weeks!
